Is ethnicity still important to white ethnic racial groups in the 21st century?

I believe that ethnicity is still important to white ethnic racial groups. It is said that the United States is a melting pot, this is because we have many cultures and ethnicities coming and blending as one. People's ethnicities and cultures have been mixing together since the time that the first immigrants came from over seas. If everyone takes away their ethnicity and culture than we will be left with the discrimination and fighting that we had when people were trying to figure out who was considered "white". The picture below shows it best. The United States is composed up multiple different cultures and ethnicities. If we didn't think that ethnicity was important still today than we would lose our identity. However, our belief of identity/ethnicity doesn't determine if we are "white" or if we are superior to another persons identity/ethnicity.
